Can you tell I don’t own any running gear? This might also be the worst picture I’ve ever allowed of myself on the internet. Thank you, Dallas, for letting me wear your military toque to keep my head warm
After a heavy month of Nanaimo bars, pizza and all kinds of other yummies, Dallas and I had been planning to start going to the gym together on Tuesday {yaaayy for free university gyms!}. I banned the scale from my house last May and actually stepped on one today. *gulp* Wake up call indeed ;)
Dallas bought his new Vibrams the other day {jealous!} and spontaneously said he was going for a run tonight. At 9:30pm. There was no way I was staying behind on the couch!
His parents bought me this adorable t-shirt from their trip to Hawaii, and I decided to break it in. I really do love vegans.
How did I make out on the run? Well, we live on a hill. A big, frickin’ hill. And though I practice yoga religiously, the fact that I was out of breath within the first two minutes of our uphill run was a good reminder of how much my cardio sucks. By the end of the run, my ears ached, and I felt like I was going to barf. The rest of my body was fine {again, yoga fiend}, but I have to admit I didn’t hate it. I was out running with my best friend, and as much as I wanted to die, it was a lot of fun. The first steps are always the hardest! Really stoked now for Tuesday
Char, xo

Hi Char – that could possibly be the cutest tee shirt I have seen in a while!
Love the rather fetching gloves:)
Great start to the year getting out running – and uphill!
hehe thanks, Ali! I felt like such a dork, but I was warm!
A tough workout, but I’m sooo glad I went! The gloves were a pretty rad stocking stuffer from my Dad, haha.
Running, yay! That t-shirt is hella cute, the most I ever got was a calendar
I love those shoes too!
thank you!
I love the shirt, too.
Dallas is definitely enjoying his Vibrams. I’m sure one day I’ll grab some for me, too!
I think you look super cute
that’s exactly what my running outfit would look like…if I ran lol
aww thanks, Jen
haha, that’s the reason I looked like that…because I don’t run
Hahahha!!! I love your pic! You are too adorable…and you know what, I don’t own proper running “gear” either! I have a couple LuLu pieces, but really I dress for looks, not speed
HEHE!
You guys are going to CRUSH it out there!
xxoo
haha…I didn’t even dress for looks, just warmth
the toque was necessary to cover my painfully sensitive ears, lol
thank you! I’m excited to have a workout buddy
xox
Stick with it – it really does get better! I was a dancer before I started running and can agree it’s a totally different kind of exercise. You feel so out of shape, but just take it slow and easy and it will get better! =)
haha I’m glad to hear that from someone else! I’m flexible and strong thanks to yoga, but the cardio is just non-existent
I’m totally sticking with it, though!
What a cute shirt!! I want to get vibrams too
thank you! I really want some vibrams, too
Well done for going on a run! That T-shirt is also adorable. Hill running is the worst so you really gave yourself a great challenge on the first day hehe! Keep it up!
thank you! I’m definitely gonna keep going
I did a great weight routine this morning, too! feeling super motivated
You guys are adorable! You’re going to VIU? What are you taking? I did my ECE diploma there, then transferred to Uvic for Child and Youth Care…which I am still plugging away at via distance ed.
Does Dallas like his vibrams? I have heard such mixed reports from people. Total love or hate thing.
awww thanks, Carly! Yep, I’m nearing the end of my 2nd year at VIU. We’re in pretty similar fields! I took the School & Community Support Worker program (which is why I have the job I do now), then transferred to the Child and Youth Care Program. As much as I love both, it wasn’t enough for me. I switched my BA and I’m majoring in Psychology. I don’t just want to help people, I want to get right down to learning behaviour and how the brain works. I find it sooo fascinating! I have two years left, then another two years to get my Master’s. Good for you for doing Child and Youth Care! I know many great people in that program, and the instructors are awesome.
Dallas does like his Vibrams! He got a wrong fit last time, but went back to swap them. He’s still getting used to and breaking them in, but he’s happy he bought them. I want a pair! I have heard of people getting the wrong fit. You really have to find a place where you can go in and try them on to see if they’re comfortable.
LOVE that shirt and you guys are super cute!
thank you! and thank you!
Aw yay!!! Welcome to the running world
My ears always hurt when it’s cold or windy. I always rock that head band thing (don’t know the name) that covers my ears. BEST investment!
I had someone mention that to me yesterday! I have a Lululemon headband, so I think I’ll try that next time
yeah, I’m the same with my ears. Even in the summer, they’re just sensitive to wind. It feels like someone is pounding both ears with a hammer :/ haha. Will rock my headband next time ;)
Those shoes are cute
they are cute! I want a pair
Aw, congrats on your run! You are looking quite sextacular.
My boyfriend looked at my screen when I was reading the part about the Vibrams and he is OBSESSED with Vibrams. This may have convinced him to buy a pair ;)
The hardest part of my run is always about five minutes in, because I start out all like “THIS IS AWESOME!!!” and then I realize that actually, it’s not that awesome, and I’d like to stop. It’s always a hump I have to get over. But usually after that I’m all good.
LOL!! I laughed so hard when I read your comment
I’m the same with running. I start out all excited, and then I’m like, “wait…this isn’t fun at all.” For me the other day, it was after about 2 mins in. But I went on the elliptical yesterday, and it was a little better. I think the run helped get me a good start-up back into cardio. And I love the word ‘sextacular.’ Thank you ;) I’m putting that one away in the ‘brain-k.’
Haha, your boyfriend has to buy them now! Dallas loves them. I want a pair, too!
Congrats on getting out there! I don’t own any running gear either, haha, but your new shirt is super cute.
haha thank you! I’m pretty stoked on my new shirt
I’ve never had running gear, just always made do. lol
Yay for getting your run on!!! Good job! We live on a big, massive hill too.. it sucks! It’s fine for walking and stuff (which I’m slowly convincing Mr. T that we need to do more of) but for running… not gonna happen lol. At least for a long, long time. Which by then, hopefully we’ll be living somewhere else :p. Anyways, just wanted to say congrats!
thank you!! haha, yeah…not sure if I will run on the hill again or not
We’re going to the gym Tuesdays and Thursdays now, where I’m rocking out the elliptical. I hate running, lol.
