Vegan Chocolate Protein Shake & The Scale Is A Liar

I almost forgot how much I love Vega <3 It’s been way too long.

I’ve slowly been adding a little bit of protein back into my diet, as I’ve realized my body just can’t lose weight by eating nothing but carbs {even if they happen to be fruit carbs}. I’m still eating relatively the same, just with added protein. It’s delicious, and my digestion has actually improved {TMI?}. How’s the gym stuff going? Well…

Despite the scale claiming I’ve gained weight {why did I bother giving that thing another chance?}, I’ve actually maintained a loss of one inch off my hips, and…I FIT MY JEANS!! blank Vegan Chocolate Protein Shake & The Scale Is A Liar This is a HUGE deal to me, because I haven’t fit into them *comfortably* for months. I even wore them to class. So, scale be damned! My legs are looking pretty sextacular right meow, if I do say so myself ;)

Moral of the story: scales are liars. Don’t live by numbers.

In regards to pants that fit me when I eat too much pasta, anyone who knocks Lululemons has never owned a pair. I’ve owned the same two pairs for 6 years, and they’ve fluctuated with my body over the years. Lululemons don’t judge you when you eat too much at dinner, and they ‘tell’ you that you have a great ass, even if it doesn’t feel like it on a particular day. Those pants are an investment in sanity, I promise you. But after the weigh-in with my jeans, I’m pretty happy that my Lulus are not the only pants that fit me anymore! hehe.

Off-topic, random recent obsession: Anyone who knows me well knows I have a massive slight obsession with steamed brussels sprouts. Lately, I’ve found them boring to eat plain, so ketchup and salt have been all over them. So good. Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it.

For those who love to learn! I read about psychology and the brain in my spare time, because I actually enjoy it. The other day, Dallas found iTunesU, and we’ve both downloaded the app. It’s free, and contains lectures and new research from top educators and researchers in various disciplines who practice at some of the highest-rated universities. I found several speeches on Psychology presented by Psychiatric researchers at Yale University, and they are so interesting! How cool is that?? I’ve already listened to three and a half of them. I listen to them while I’m cooking, when I’m getting ready for the day, when I’m editing photos…just, so awesome. peace, love, food <3

  1. I got rid of iTunes after my account was hacked and they wouldn’t help me get it cancelled live – I had to “send an email” and wait 24 hours. That being said, the concept of iTunesU sounds cool – I’ll have to see if there are any similar non-iTunes versions. :)

I agree 100% with your scale assessment, how you look & how your clothes feel are much better measures of progress than a number. Keep it up!!

    • Ugh, that sounds like a frustrating situation with iTunes. I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you can find a similar version! Maybe visit University websites and see if they have audio or visual clips? Hope you can find something :)
And thank you! The scale can’t tell me what my jeans tell me ;)

Brussel’s sprouts are pretty much my favorite food ever. I either smother them in Teriyaki sauce or Franks Red Hot sauce. Mmmmmm b. sprouts.

I’ve been shopping around for protein powder for awhile now. I’ve never used one before and it’s tough because everyone has such different opinions on them!

    • Ooohh I like your ideas of Teriyaki & Frank’s Red Hot! I’m going to try those next :D …once the ketchup addiction wears off, haha. I have a bowl sitting beside me again. I have a problem.

I agree with you on the protein powder thing. I think Vega is the most popular in terms of people who like it. I don’t really like their chocolate or vanilla chai flavours. I DO like the natural, as I tend to flavour it with any combination of cocoa, vanilla, and cinnamon. The berry is good if you like adding frozen berries to your smoothies. It totally enhances it :) Most health food stores sell individual serving packets so you can try them out, too!

  3. I never thought to add cocoa powder to my juices – but it’s a great idea! So exciting to fit into the skinny jeans – yay!

  4. Love it! I know you said I’d hate your post if I was sick of smoothies, but I’m sick of them because I’m making the same ones over and over – so I am always glad to have a new recipe! Plus I love smoothies all the time anytime but this cleanse powder I have to mix in with them pretty much ruins the flavour lol. However, anything with banana in I’ve found masks it really well so I can’t wait to try this!

Also, ditto – in nearly 2 weeks of cleansing now according to the scale I’ve ‘only’ lost 2 or 3 lbs. And sometimes I step on and I haven’t lost any (probably I drank a lot of water). It’s all a mind game – I’ve been going hardcore with working out since doing this cleanse and I can tell I’ve gained muscle. Yep, measurements don’t lie – I lost half an inch from my arms and 2 inches from waist. Crazy! Liar scale liar! Keep up the great work Char, you look amazing!!

    • Hahaha fair enough! That’s how I eventually got with making the same smoothies, but I ran out of ideas! I agree- bananas are necessary in smoothies ;)

The scale is toootally a mind game! I stepped on it yesterday and it was back down 2lbs! I’m just gonna go by how my clothes feel, and what the inches say. And thank you! You’re doing great, too, Anna! Keep it up ;)

  5. Scales are liars! Especially when you are adding muscle to your body. Inches are the way to go, which btw, congrats!!!

And I 100% agree with you about lululemon’s. They are currently my go-to until I drop a few pounds and get back into my jeans. Lulu’s always work :)

I HAVE to try that brussels sprouts combo!! I had some last night and thought how I needed to find a way to spice them up! What a great idea!!!

    • Thank you, Liz!! I’m just gonna go by the inches and how my clothes feel :D
The lulus are my stand-by when I’m losing weight, too. They hide the fact that I have anything to lose, hehe.

Let me know if you try the ketchup on your brussels sprouts! The sea salt is a must with them, too. Sweet & salty! I used to eat them plain all the time because I preferred them that way, but lately…they need some punch ;)

  6. Kit-Kat says:

    Hey Char!
The scale is probably right…. you probably gained muscle, not fat! :-)
