Treats From Sweden!

Posted on May 18, 2012

After my Swedish friend Malin @ Vegan Parade sent me some amazing chocolates which I won in a contest, we agreed it would be fun to be foodie penpals & keep the exchanges going. Since there are so many treats in Sweden that are not available in Canada & vice versa, this is a good opportunity for us both to try new & exciting treats. When my package arrived, I couldn’t wait to open it!

First, I found the suckers! I’ve already had two of them & let Dallas have a taste. We agreed they taste like “regular” suckers, but no sugar crash after. I love that they’re naturally sweetened with agave & coloured with beets!

Next: more candy!! I’ve already had the Strawberry Bear. Inside were two mini rolls that tasted like Fruit Roll-ups, but way better! Ingredient list says: “apples, pears, sweet potato extract, natural strawberry flavour, absolutely nothing else.” Love it! And it comes with fun animal facts inside. Did you know that a snail can sleep for up to THREE YEARS?! Or that rabbits can jump twice as far as the best Olympic jumpers?? So cool!

Onto chocolates! I ate the crispy rice bar yesterday, and it was really good. It had a layer of chocolate krispies, then a layer of vanilla krispies, & chocolate chips on top! Yum. I’m really looking forward to trying the other chocolate bars.

TEA! I’ve already had the chai white tea. Delicious! One can never have too many teas.

Lip balm & coins! I lovelovelove that Malin sent me coins, & I will have to do that for her in the next package I send to her. The coconut hemp seed oil lip balm is honestly just simply amazing. My lips have been feeling a little dry lately, but I don’t like to buy chapstick because it always dries my lips out further. This stuff, however, I applied two days ago and haven’t felt the need to reapply since. I actually almost forgot about it and only remembered when writing the post! No dry lips, and it enhances my lips’ natural colour nicely. love it blank Treats From Sweden!

That’s it, that’s all! I sent some Char Stars & Clif Bars to Malin, but clearly I need to be more imaginative next time! Thank you so much for all of these amazing treats, Malin! I have them in a special bowl on the counter that I keep picking from. hehe.

Last but not least, Malin’s note was just so sweet, I have to share! I do hope to visit Sweden someday.

This has brought back such memories! When I was in Junior High a teacher of mine brought a relative (I can’t remember the relationship now) from Sweden and we ended up becoming pen pals for years. Probably into high school. I learned so much about their different culture it was really cool. I used to want to travel there so bad.

I love seeing all the options she sent you!

    • awww that’s such a neat story! Do you still keep in touch?
I never had a penpal when I was growing up, but we had International students from Korea & Japan that would come to stay with us. I’ve always loved learning about other cultures :)

So sweet! I love packages! You’ll have to send her a penny while it still exists! It’s tough to think of *Canadian things* when you live here and are surrounded by them all the time hey?!

  3. What an adorably sweet package! And with such a sweet note! I would love to try those suckers, awesome they are colored with beets and sweetened with agave! You got some great stuff in there! Hope you’re going nuts. :)

  4. Haha I forgot I threw the coins in there. Be sure to keep them! You’re gonna need them when you come to Sweden ;)) I’m so glad you enjoyed and are enjoying your package. Will send you more suckers next time! The raw chocolate is a favorite of mine so you definitely have something to look forward to there. Haha and I love that you put everything in a bowl!! <3

    • hehe I’ll buy more suckers with my coins when I come to Sweden! I only have one left now; I love them. I’m looking forward to the chocolate bar! What does “vanoffee” mean? I somehow have an image of vanilla toffee lol. My bowl is now designated for treats from you & others :) Can’t wait to exchange new packages! And I got my new business cards in the mail today, so I will have to send you one <3

      • I’m afraid you can’t even buy half a sucker with those coins! Haha. But I promise to send you a whole bunch of them in the next package… :)) Yeah, I suppose vanoffe is = vanilla and toffee. Have you tried it yet? It has lucuma in it! Yum yumz. And yes you have to send one of your cards next time. I really want to see it! <3

        • HOLY YUMM that is delicious!! I was so excited to see lucuma as an ingredient- it tastes so caramelly!! Favourites so far- vanoffee, bonbarr, suckers, KIDZ gummy bar…so I guess everything! haha but those were seriously amazing :) thank you!!

  5. Foreign stuff always seems cooler, doesn’t it??? haha Great goodies!

  6. Wow! I love that the lollipops were sweetened with agave and coloured naturally. That’s so cool!
