Vegetable Curry at Longwood Brew Pub and Hiking up Rutherford Ridge
On the weekend, Dallas wanted to go to Longwood Brew Pub for dinner before our hike, and I didn’t object. I thought I would have only the option of a veggie burger & soup or salad {which are still delicious!}, but lo and behold they have a new menu item! Coconut Red Curry Vegetables!
Packaged with perfectly cooked broccoli, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, red onions, and a sprig of basil, this was a perfect dinner for my hungry tummy. It’s a little bit pricey, but well worth it. Plus, I am lucky enough to be dating a gentleman who picked up the tab
After our dinner settled down a bit, we put on our hiking shoes and decided to tackle a new trail: Rutherford Ridge. Half the fun of hiking is finding new places and not knowing what to expect. We didn’t know the route up the ridge {mountain?} but we found our way along. It probably took us a little longer than someone who knows the trails, but again, half the fun. From the top, you can see all of Nanaimo.
Then I tried to take a picture of myself with the wind in my face. lol.
I moved over & tried once more with Dallas. A little better
On our way back down, we could hear a robin singing. That was definitely one of my favourite parts! We’re both really enjoying this hiking hobby, and I can’t wait to take it further. We are very lucky to live where we live, being able to go off on a hike in what was practically our backyard. Love it!
Do you enjoy hiking? What are some of your favourite things to do outdoors?
peace, love, food <3

I LOVE hiking. One of my favorite things to do. I love looking at this photo and seeing the different lower level scrub, although in many ways this looks almost “local.”
That curry looks heavenly!
Hmmmm if it looks like this where you live, we might have to come hiking there!
The curry was amazing. I seriously can’t wait to go back for more!
I really enjoy hiking and can’t wait to do it more when we move to Colorado! Love that picture of you and Dallas, so cute.
Ohh, Colorado will be perfect for hiking!! You’ll have to post many pictures.
And thank you!
Hiking is so much fun! I love your vegetable curry, yum!
hehe I loved it, too
and yes, hiking is fun!
I love walking in the countryside over here, it’s so gorgeous and green. When we were in Calgary last we hiked out in Canmore which was great too. I’m looking forward to doing more hiking in the future!
I should check out Canmore next time I’m in Calgary- I do have family there. I bet it is a gorgeous hike in the countryside!
Beautiful hike! We did a 3-hour hike on Mayne Island this past weekend when I was there with 9 other friends for a weekend trip. It was an easy hike but so beautiful! The islands of BC have some fab views!
oohh I will have to check out Mayne Island. BC in general has some beautiful trails! I remember even when I lived in Maple Ridge, it was pretty easy to run off for a hike
Let me know if you need any trail ideas in Nanaimo. We hike soooo much. Chris is super intense, they go hiking up mountains and then camp at the top and snowboard down the next day. I’m not at that level yet ;) Actually, I don’t even strive to be there haha
oh geez, I will never be at that level! haha. I love hiking, I love camping, I love snowboarding, but never will the latter meet with the two former
Camping & hiking in the summer is all that will be happening for us, haha. I just might ask you for some trails! We’ve got a few more in mind, but I will absolutely be asking you when we run out of ideas
Thanks, Carly!
